Visa announced today the launch of Visa eCommerce Purchase Protection ahead of Valentine’s and Chinese New Year celebrations. Visa eCommerce Purchase Protection provides coverage for possible losses of online purchases made by eligible Visa cards, giving consumers an added layer of security and peace of mind when shopping online locally and globally.1

With Visa eCommerce Purchase Protection, cardholders are automatically covered as long as they purchase the item from local or overseas online sellers using the eligible Visa card, including electronics, gadgets, clothes, shoes, personal items. Visa Signature and Visa Infinite cardholders are covered for up to USD 200 (HKD 1,550) per claim and USD 1,000 (HKD 7,750) per claim per annum respectively for any of the following instances:

  • Non-delivery of purchased item after 30 days of scheduled delivery
  • Wrong or incomplete delivery of purchased item
  • Physical damage to the delivered item

COVID-19 has put eCommerce at the forefront of retail consumption:

  • In 2020, global eCommerce witnessed sales of USD 4.2 trillion and the number is expected to accelerated and reach USD 6.5 trillion by 2023.2
  • In 2020, electronics, retail goods, discount stores, department stores, apparel and accessories and home improvement and supplies have seen high double-digit growth in online transactions from the same time the year before.3
  • In Hong Kong, Visa’s recent study4 showed that over half (52%) of all shopping during the pandemic was done online in 2020. When the pandemic is largely behind us, Hongkongers still expect to do 45% of purchases online. There were significant increases in online purchases related to beauty and cosmetics (49%), fashion and accessories (48%), home decoration and furniture (37%), and personal electronics (36%).
